SEO, AEO and GEO: a practical SaaS launch checklist

Make your SaaS site crawlable, clear, and useful for search and AI answers without relying on ranking promises or special-file myths.

SEO, answer engine optimization (AEO), and generative engine optimization (GEO) share a useful starting point: publish clear, accurate pages that search systems can access. No checklist guarantees rankings, citations, or recommendations by an AI assistant.

Make the public pages accessible

Check that your home page, pricing information, documentation, and articles return successful responses without requiring a login. Keep customer dashboards and private API routes out of your public sitemap. Use a canonical URL for each page and include only URLs that resolve to real content.

A sitemap helps discovery; it does not guarantee indexing. A robots rule guides compliant crawlers; it does not secure private data. Authentication must protect customer information.

Answer a specific customer question

Start each article with an answer that fits its title. Then show the steps, decision criteria, and a concrete example. Link to relevant product documentation and related guides where those links help the reader complete the task.

For a SaaS launch, useful questions include who the product serves, what a plan includes, how cancellation works, and which integrations are currently available. Keep those answers consistent across landing pages, checkout, documentation, and support.

Keep structured data honest

Use article and breadcrumb markup to describe the page visitors can actually read. Include the real title, publication date, publisher, and canonical URL. Do not add fabricated reviews, ratings, authors, or promises of results to make the markup look more impressive.

Google’s AI search guidance says foundational SEO and useful, distinctive content remain relevant. It also advises against treating unnecessary AI text files as an optimization shortcut. An llms.txt file can be a convenient documentation index, but it is not a ranking requirement.

Measure visibility and useful outcomes

Verify your domain in Search Console, submit the sitemap, and inspect a few important URLs. Monitor indexing, search queries, and the landing pages people reach. Connect that information to qualified signups and customer conversations before deciding which topic to expand.

AI recommendations can vary by system, prompt, and time. Record observations with the exact query and date instead of presenting a single answer as a stable position.

What should a small team do first?

Fix inaccessible pages, misleading feature claims, broken links, and missing page descriptions. Then publish one strong guide based on a question your customers actually ask. Use our first 100 days of startup SEO to build a sustainable publishing plan.
